Kids Patriotic Craft - India Bunting

Today I am sharing with you India Bunting, a Kids Patriotic Craft to create a cheap, yet festive decoration for the upcoming India Independence Day holiday on 15th August.

To make this you will need:

• round coffee filters 
• Saffron(Orange) and green dot Markers
  
• glue stick 
• ribbon, yarn or string 
• newspaper to protect your table

Coffee filters are inexpensive and so fun to color. Since they are very thin and super absorbent, you could layer a couple while coloring. We have used them to make Suns and Earth. First fold your coffee filter in half and lay it flat and use dot markers to color the edges green, leaving plenty of white space. You could even use paint if you want. 

Next, add the Saffron(orange). We alternated the designs, making the bulls' eye green on some with saffron borders, and vice versa. Putti loved decorating these.

She made a few, different from the bulls eye pattern, she started with. Here's some of the filters she had colored. They do go pretty fast!!

Once dry, open the filters and get your glue stick and string. Put some glue in the center and all over half of the filter, then lay the string in the middle, making sure to leave around some string at one end, for hanging. Fold it over, press and then add your next filter in the same way.

Keep adding filters until you are all done.  Once you've finished, display your bunting wherever you'd like- Mantle, Door, Window, Patio!!

Paper Chain for Indian Independence Day

We made these patriotic paper chains for Indian Independence Day. They are very simple to make.

Supplies for Paper Chain:

• paper – we used  Orange(Saffron), White and Green construction paper
• scissors or paper slicer
• glue or tape or stapler
• blue marker

Cut strips approximately 2" x 8 ½" from the construction paper using a ruler and zacto blade. My ruler is about 2" wide so I use that as my guide.

Once you have cut the strips, draw little circles on the center of the white stripes with blue marker. 

And draw lines as shown inside it which forms the 24 spokes of the Ashoka Chakra. 

Take one strip and over lap the ends to form a loop and staple in place. My girl recently has learnt to sucessfully use the stapler and thus chose it, but you could glue or tape the loop. Slide the next piece of paper through the first and secure. 

Continue till all strips are used - make sure to follow the colors of India Flag - Saffron, White and Green. 

• Paper chains are a great inexpensive way to decorate for a holiday or party.  
• These can be made in any colors to suit all sorts of occasions. 
• Decorate inside or outdoors with these easy paper chain decorations. 
• Chains can be hung from the ceiling as you would hang crape paper or draped around the room anyway your imagination decides.
• They are great countdown to holidays and or birthdays too.

Blog Break - We are visiting home in India !!

I am so very excited today, as myself and Putti are going to India to visit my family. My husband will be joining us later in October. Almost 26 hours of flight including 2 stops and waiting time is going to be a very long and tiresome journey. But at the end of it is Home, which makes the journey seem sweet !!


We will be going for almost 3 months and it has been over 2 year since our last visit. Though my husband's parents had visited us here last year and stayed with us for 4 months, I cant wait to meet my parents. It is going to be a family reunion too. My elder brother's family from Llanelli, UK and younger brother from Melbourne, Australia are visiting too. We all have so much to catch up on and there are a couple of Festivals (Hindu Holidays) coming up during our stay, I cant wait to celebrate it at home with family!! All those people, all that chit-chat, noise, yummy food...... aah its gonna be awesome :)




And we are yet to meet a beautiful little girl of my brother in law who is already 2 years now!. Putti will have my neice Kushi who is almost the same age as her to play with. Both of us will be pampered and spoiled for sure ;) It is going to be so wonderful !!! 

So I am taking this week off. I will be back soon, once we settle down at home and come off of Jetlag. I have many activities I am yet to share with you all. Also have planned many activities during our India stay too. But I may not be active with all the link parties, though I really appreciate all of you hosting it regularly, giving me a chance to share with all your readers. Also to all my blogging friends, I will miss reading your wonderful posts, though I will try to sneak in whenever I can!
