The 5 books Putti picked for this week are :

• One Rainy Day by Tammi Salzano is a colorfully illustrated book which is about a Duck who loves a rainy day because it brings out the colors in his world. This is a great way to introduce little ones to objects and colors on rainy day.
• The Digging-est Dog by Al Perkins is abot Duke the dog who lived in a Pet store and does not know how to dig. Soon he learns it gets carried away with enthusiasm and dugs up the whole town making people angry. And then realises his mistake and asks for forgiveness. The rhyme, rhythm and illustrations are great! 
• That's not my Puppy

• Caillou: Who Lives in the Forest  is a lift the flap book. Putti loves it tolift them and learn interesting things about the animals that live in the forest. What do you call a baby deer? Where does the beaver live? What do heron tracks look like?

  The Foolish Tortoise is about a tortoise that decides one day that he is tired of being slow. He takes off his shell, in the hope to move fast. Soon he discovers that he misses his shell for: shelter, shade, and safety. He also realizes that he will never be fast, and when he finds his shell again, he gladly climbs back inside.

Kate at An Amazing Child is hosting a blogging event this week to celebrate the birthday of Eric Carle on 25th June. We are glad to be part of it. Kate has planned a whole week long activities about his books. There will be many other wonderful bloggers writing about his books, doing art activities and play ideas to go with his books! So come back as there will be more people adding in until saturday. 

This week's our 5-a-Day Books are all Eric Carle stories! 

First is Eric Carle’s most famous and well-loved book- The Very Hungry Caterpillar. This book has been a favorite with Putti ever since the first time I read it to her. She loves poking her fingers through the holes in the food and is amazed with the long list of food that the caterpillar eats on Saturday! It is the first book she learnt to read all by herself. She has known the book by heart for more than couple of months now, yet never gets bored with it. We both love reading it !!

The Grouchy Ladybug is the story of a grouchy ladybug who is looking for fight, challenges everyone it meets regardless of their size. I also love that the book takes the ladybug through her day hour by hour with little illustrated clocks on top of each page. This is putti's favorite part of the book and she points to the clock, reads the time and then the story..

Brown Bear brown bear what do you see? 

This was the first book putti asked me to get her. She was introduced to it at her preschool. Appealing animals in bold colors are seen and named in a rhyming question-and-response text that delights as it invites young readers and listeners to participate actively.

The Tiny Seed
 The book talks about the life cycle of plants, as one tiny seed which faces many challenges, grows into an enormous sunflower, which then produces more seeds in its turn. The book introduces the seasons and the role of the weather in seed germination. And ultimately tells of the importance of just the right environment in order for a plant to grow.


Have you seen my cat?
A little boy’s beloved pet cat has disappeared and he goes out to find it. In his search he meets many people who try to help him and he meets different kinds of cats, both wild and domesticated, before he finally discovers his own cat,

5 a Day Books Challenge - Week 8

The last two weeks has been very hectic with lots of things going on and also we were travelling on and off. So have not been able to make a blog post about our books. I had picked some of the books from our previous weeks, so that made it very easy to read while on the move.
Well now for the books chosen for this week:

Lots of  Dots by Craig Frazier encourages young readers to look closely at the world around them. Buttons are dots. Wheels are dots. Ladybugs have dots. And so do the fried eggs on your plate. Lots of Dots is lots of fun! 


Toddlerobics by Zita Newcome is a great book for movement, movement and movement!!! There hello, good byes, rubbing noes and lots more. Excellent illustrations, catchy rhymes and fun animal motions make this a very interactive book


4 Pups and a Worm by Eric Seltzer is a fantastic book. The rhymes are fun and the illustrations do not fail to entertain. Watching these animals save the day over and over is a delight.


Eat your Peas This is a clever book that will turn an all-too-familiar situation of the battle between parents and children when it comes to trying different foods on its ears. The dialogue between Daisy and her mother will cause kids to giggle. A fun book with bright, simple illustrations that will keep kids interested.

Mitchell is Moving is about Mitchell, the dinosaur who is tired of living in the same old place and decides to move. His best friend Margo isn't happy about that at all. She thinks of some ways to try and keep Mitchell as her neighbor. The story is cute.

5- A-Day Book Challenge - Week 7

Well, we completed our sixth week of the 5-A-Day book challenge. We didn't get around to reading all 5 books especially on weekends. Putti really has gotten into this 5 books thing. Anytime we read, she insists on reading the 5 special books.

Her vocabulary has improved a lot, given the fact that We speak to her only in kannada at home except while reading english books to her. Thanks to Anna for starting this and inspiring us. The main reason for me to take part in this challenge is I being born and brought up in India in a non english speaking home, havenot read any of these books as a kid, so all are new to me. And this challenge has helped me pick some great books for putti!!

5- A-Day Book Challenge - Week 6

I have been sick for the last week and  was not able to read to/with putti  much. And I am so glad she had picked two of Eric Carle's books which she and I have known by heart now, so made it much easier to read.

Have you seen my cat by Eric Carle is a little boy's story whose cat is missing, and he goes around asking people to find his lost pet. He sees many members of the cat family, including lions, tigers and panthers. "Have you seen my cat?" and "This is not my cat!" are repeated and are the only text to read in the book, which makes it very easy for putti to read it. She loves recognizing the various wild cats all through the book!!

 

The very hungry caterpillar by Eric Carle has been Putti's favorite for a long time now. It teaches days of the week, the days of the week, counting to five and also the life cycle of a butterfly in a wonderful way.

 

One Hungry Monster by Susan Heyboer O'Keefea wonderful is a counting book with lots of rhyming text. Purple eggplants and pickled pears are putti's new favorite food to ask for snack!! The monsters paint their lips with peanut butter, put spaghetti on their heads and more and putti has attempted to paint her lips when she eats peanut butter. Hope she does not try to mimick the monsters' other acts.

Ten in the meadow  by John Butler The critters are almost too adorable. The book has nice rhymes with the hide-and-seek story. And there're some visual clues about who the Bear will be finding next which putti loved guessing.

Duck in the truck by Jez Alborough is the story of a Duck in his truck which gets struck in the muck who is helped by a sheep in a jeep and goat in boat!! Loved all the rhyming words. Putti  pointed out that Duck did not Thank his friends for helping  him and she did not like that!!
