Decorated Sugar Cookies...

The first time i tried baking and decorating cookies was for putti's 2nd birthday last year. Wanted to make something 'fishy' for her and her friends. I donot like the taste of eggs in cookies had to look for eggless recipes. I am glad i found this recipe in recipezaar which is so very simple.
For the cookies, you will need :
1cup Butter
1/2cup Sugar
2.5cup All purpose flour
1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Cream the butter and suga. Add flour and vanilla extract. Refrigerate for 1/2 hour or more. When ready to bake. Heat oven to 300F. Roll dough into 1/4" thickness and cutout desired shapes and bake on ungreased cookie sheet for 25mins or until done.

For Icing, i just mixed confectioner's sugar with water and food color until i got the required consistency. I did not want to add any egg or meringue to my icing so it was kinda tricky to work with. And i just used a ziplock cover to pipe these. Make sure the cookies are comepletely cooled. First draw a dam around the cookies and then do the filling inside. Wait until this dries very well and only then add your decorations!!

Well here are the results... not perfect, but putti and the kids loved it and am happy:))
And also wrote the kids name on the cookies which went into their goody bags!

Since the theme was fish, i made these chillie biscuits for the big kids from namratha's blog in the shape of a fish:)

And these diya shaped cookies were made for putti's happy diwali dance rehearsal snack.

Hi Putti's mom, I have a question. I follow your blog closely and I really love the cookies you have made. I have a question on the eggless cookie as I am first timer.

"Cream the butter and suga. Add flour and vanilla extract. Refrigerate for 1/2 hour or more."

Could you please tell what is meant by Cream the butter and Sugar? What is the purpose of keeping it refrigerated ? How much consistency should the dough be before refrigerating? please suggest
